Polarbeast's Personal Links

Before we get started with the Lounge Linques, here are maintained a few non-Goth, non-Lounge, and non-cigar, -cannibalistic, -vampirism, or other DeadLounge.comesque links. Some are rave links, some are sites I've created myself, some are pretty hip sites by friends of mine. I urge you to check them out, on pain of... ah, pain of losing your dark and morbid status.

The Ultra-Lounge

The definitive source of music for the serious swinger. The Ultra-Lounge has twelve collections covering the gamut from leopard skin and polyester to shiny suits and cocktails to spy themes and French accents.

DrinkBoy.com

There are other cocktail recipe repositories out there, yes, but DrinkBoy has my deep respect. He knows what the hell he's doing, for one thing. He has recipes, of course, but also writes witty and personable articles about the realm of the alcoholic beverage, stocking the bar, and the idiosyncracies of various spirits. Study hard, and perhaps you shall progress from common bottle jockey to true bartending guru.

TheVirtualBar.com

A vast and useful archive, The Virtual Bar not only contains a most impressive array of detailed drink recipes, but helpful how-to hints about everything from stocking your bar to the best cures for hangovers. You'll definitely learn something here; they even have a list of appropriate toasting songs and silly bar tricks.

Cocktailtime

A must for the virtual bartender, this stylish and knowledgeable place keeps an archive of past cocktails of the week. Every drink has a history, and you can pick up on some cocktail know-how whilst you're at Cocktailtime.

Combustible Edison

A nicely updated lounge room dedicated to one of the musical leaders of the modern cocktail nation, Combustible Edison. Read the interviews with the members, hear music clips and admire the fashion sense. Don't yet have any Combustible Edison in your collection? Why not?

RetroOnline

RetroOnline exists in response to the utter lack of inexpensive retro furniture on the Internet, and satisfyingly fills that void. Find anything retro or space age to fill out your bachelor's paradise, including starburst clocks, glassware, clothing, lighting and novelties.

Beyond the Roots of Lounge

The Roots of Lounge was already a handy resource for newcomers to the lounge experience, but this new-fangled, hi-fi site has an even deeper bin of information, explanation, distillation and mesmerization to fulfill your swanky needs. Along with a regularly-updated journal to keep you up-to-retro-date, there are links galore and a snappily austere layout make for a good place to start on your leopardskin-clad web journeys.

Graveyard Creep

Home to such bands noir as the Hellhounds, Creepers, and Natassja Noctis, Graveyard Creep Records cultivates a properly dank and dark cocktail of music. A little punk, a little rockabilly, a lot of moss on the tombstones, and some mp3s to listen to while you're at it. Go listen.

Vav Jungle

Vav Jungle has actually been around a little while and performed at some impressive gigs, intriguing lounge enthusiasts with eerily Walter Wanderleyesque keyboards and Eve Rice's bored-yet-titillating tones (and some interpretive dance by Grace Martini), and you were cool if you knew about them. Vav Jungle delves deeply into the murky world of lounge, space pop and exotica, and you can hear them here or buy them here . You can, and you must.

Vik Trola's Lounge of Self Indulgence

To get with the Jet Set and the In Crowd, you gotta slide into Vik Trola's Lounge of Self Indulgence. Vik is an icon of swank, not only offering a bar, bandstand, kitchen and valet, but the Temple of Denny, dedicated to the Martin Denny Group.

Club Velvet

An exotic, tiki-torchlit adventure awaits you at King Kiki's Club Velvet Cocktail Lounge. Listen to the swinging shows. Get ideas for your own music collection from Kini's massive list. Relax with one of his own cocktail specialties. King Kini's is a visual treat.

World Wide Retro

A vibrant and comprehensive collection of all the best retro merchandise, lounge paraphernalia and links, neon, tiki, googie, swing, rockabilly, and brouhaha you can find on the net. They've got enough links to satisfy the most diligent questor of kitsch, even down to the retro dinnerware.

Pushin' Daisies

You will love what they dig up for you here at Pushin' Daisies. The only mortuary novelty shop of which I am aware, they have wonderfully dark & deadly items such as solid milk chocolate (in the shape of a casket), hearse keychains, body bag laundry bags, and a delightful assortment of fun paraphernalia. Order what you need from here.

Stained Productions

One of the most hep and ultra-swanky places to go from here is Stained Productions, the world's first and only cocktail-lounge-goth-swing-techno-industrial website. They're a fabulously tasty concoction of culture, as well as judicious users of the Benguiat Frisky font which I adore so much.

Santiagoville

Ah, Santiagoville... known as the Happiest Place in Hell. Like every small village, they have "a beautiful cemetery, a tiki bar, a volcano, a shopping mall, various haunted castles, a lake full of sea monsters, a swamp full of corpses, a dungeon, a stable, a zoo, and other assorted businesses." It is after my own heart, of course. Go there, sign the Dreambook, and become a resident, I urge you.

Miaaow

More motel peepshow than plain old lingerie catalogue, Miss Miaaow's collection is inspired by the nylon of '60s B-movies and pulp fictions covers. Definitely some slick and sexy retro glamour wear for the bedroom or for evening forays! Join the Miaaow Lounge to read (and submit) some guest stories.

Greg Knight's Patio Culture

What America grew up with during the last few decades: a smoking barbecue grill, TV gently glowing in the family room, exotic sounds emanating from the patio. The Grillmeister at Greg Knight's Patio Culture site has it all, and even gives you a few wise tips for the perfect steak.

The Lounge-O-Leers

Known across New York as quite the cool retronerds, The Lounge-O-Leers create ambient music expressly for the entertainment of the subconscious mind. Their repertoire extends from exotica lounge to top-40-turned kitsch, and perform with deadpan faces. There are plenty of links and libations on the site, and some brilliant postcards. Truly music to live by.

Zigy's Martini Lounge

An elegant Website with fabulous graphics, Zigy's Martini Lounge is dedicated to that Clear Concoction of the Gods, providing a thorough history and a solid collection of tips and instructions. Zigy is a purist at heart, but sees no reason to argue about shaking vs. stirring. Shouldn't we all rather relax and have a martini?

Leopard Lady Lounge

When you're ready to decorate your new pad, you can find all the necessary nifty items at Leopard Lady Lounge.com. From tiki coasters to cufflinks, from vintage clothes to some amazingly hip retro bar towels, Leopard Lady Lounge.com has what you (and I) need. They even have their own line of soaps, bath salts and body lotions.

The T&A Show

It's always nice to see minds of a similarly eclectic bent across America. Visit The T&A Show (formerly the Spotted Lounge), home of one sassy and beautiful Sister Nocturna Switchblade a.k.a. Ann-Marie: professional geek, artist, fitness buff and co-cult leader of the Ministry of Truth / Church of the SubGenius.

Franco's Cocktail Mixes

Of course I need to include the necessities one might need to maintain a proper bar. Franco's carries a lot of good non-alcoholic stuff, including Franco's Lemon Bar Mix, Pat O'Brien's Hurricane Mix (which we've all seen at the supermarket), even those sombrero-shaped margarita salt containers. Tonton sometimes used their colored margarita salt when he gets on the loco side.

Catching the Butterfly

An eclectic spot to find all your vintage and brand name clothing and accessories. Not exactly goth, not exactly lounge, but a cache of retro goodies by a couple of real nice people. A lot of stuff goes for under thirty bucks.

Bar Stools HQ

You'd think a site devoted solely to bar stools would be fairly small and simple. You know, bar stools, but also dinettes, pool tables, miscellaneous furniture, etc., because there aren't enough bar stools to go around. Not here. Just scrolling down the list of the KINDS of bar stools they link to is enough to satisfy any bar enthusiast. This page is devoted especially to vintage '50s bar stools, which is what we're all about around here.
